My work has always been based on my love of landscape and I use this as a starting point to manipulate colours, shapes and rhythms that respond to landscape in a very personal way

For me this means the weaving of colours, in finding the lines and shapes and rhythms that relate to my experience.  The resulting tension between reality and abstraction it thus always present to a lesser or greater degree

REFLECTIONS ON LANDSCAPE

This series reflects my philosophy and commitment to this tension between reality and abstraction.  I find that a merely visual realityis not enough to enable me to fully represent the experience of being in landscape

DREAM SERIES

With this new series my work has moved in a different direction with a new dream quality emerging

Following a trip to Nice in the South of France and a visit to the Chagall Museum I felt strongly drawn to the often whimsiacal imagery and the wonderful blue found in many of the paintings.  This has resulted in the appearance of forms that perhaps reflect emerging life, renewing and energising itself.  These are colourful, optomistic and often whimsical works.

THE JOY OF OCHRE AND LIGHT

This series follows my visit to the Northern Territory where I felt an overwhelming awe of the wonderful light and colour of the desert

Once again the tension between reality and abstraction is the key to these works and this is combined with a reverence for the original people of the desert who live and thrive in theis wonderful place.
